The interaction and docking of two molecules is the process by which chemical reactions occur on a biological level. One molecule either inserts itself or closely associates itself with another, and the resulting close association of the two molecules facilitates a particular biological function or cascade of events. For example, when long chains of amino acids, or polyproteins, are inserted into a cleft of HIV-1 Protease, the protein cleaves the polyprotein chain into individual components, which then are assembled to form the HIV virus.
According to the passage, which of the following is most likely the function of the HIV-1 Protease?
- A To dock to three molecules
- B To interact with all other molecules
- C To bind to four molecules
- D To undergo a 3-dimensional transitions
- E To cleave polyproteins
